Position: Lab Technician IV
Starting Pay: DOE
Job Description:
Performs a variety of working level complex technical duties related to the analysis of biosolids, and wastewater samples. Routinely maintains various computerized and written records and reports related to lab results, lab maintenance, lab inventory, and pretreatment. Performs some custodial duties for the lab as needed.
Education & Experience:
• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
• Graduation from college with an associate degree in chemistry, biology or some other related field:
And
One (1) year of specialized training in chemistry, biology, microbiology, nursing, or soil sciences
And
One (1) year of experience in water/wastewater analysis
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of standard procedures, micro and molecular biology and general chemistry; working knowledge of interpersonal communication skills; the operation of personal computers and various program applications (ie, Excel, Word, MS Access, etc) suited to data and information management. Some knowledge of statistics and LIMS systems preferred.
Considerable skill in the operation of computers.
Ability to learn wastewater chemical and laboratory Standard Methods, procedures and processes; understand and interpret various test results; develop effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, industry personnel, and the public; keep and maintain various numeric and narrative records in appropriate filing systems; work independently and demonstrate competence in performing assigned duties; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Must obtain a Wastewater Treatment Operator certification grade I (restricted) within two (2) years.
Must obtain a Wastewater Treatment Lab Analyst certification grade II within three (3) years.
Must possess a valid Utah State driver’s license within 6 months of hire.
